An Open Letter to Patriots

Fellow Citizens,
History has verified that every Society must occasionally review its course of action and demand change when necessary to promote the health and well-being of its People.
America has been no stranger to this principle. The Founding of this country was based on the ideal that a nation’s people are best when self-governed and free. The Civil War was fought on the principle that a nation must stand united to provide Liberty, and the Civil Rights and Women’s Suffrage Movements proved that peaceful demonstrations and determination can, in a free country, change the status quo and bring equality to all people.
These battles were fought not because the subjects were popular, they were fought because the cause was just!
Given the course of current events, it is once again necessary to declare our independence.
“To speak practically and as a citizen, unlike those who call themselves no-government men, I ask for, not at once no-government, but AT ONCE a better government. Let every man make known what kind of government would command his respect, and that will be one step toward obtaining it” – H.D. Thoreau, Civil Disobedience
The American Founders, in all their wisdom and charity, fought to bring Liberty and Justice to this Nation, so that every person could forge their own destiny and live free from the bonds of tyranny.
Sadly, as we near the anniversary of our American Independence this government moves to “change” our individual destiny and make it into a collective one, in defiance of the common sense that once prevailed. The statutes of the Constitution are being pushed aside in favor of a rapidly growing and increasingly more powerful federal government. It is a declaration of war against the very people that brought it into existence.
We must at once cry out against these transgressions and remind our representatives that the power of the government lies within the will of the people. We must utilize our First Amendment right to peaceably assemble and make our united voices loud and clear.
We will not sit idle as the government moves to unfairly tax, to expand its power at any cost, burden the people with debt, and aggressively alter the fabric of our economic system. Bailouts, Czars, and new laws passed in the cover of night cannot, and will not, be tolerated. We the people, must declare these actions unjust and make a concentrated effort to utilize our Constitutional Rights in order to return this government to its citizens.
Thomas Jefferson, Our 3rd President, one of this nation’s dedicated founders, the idealist, the Patriot, and one of history’s most devoted proponents of foundational Liberty, once brilliantly declared:
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness. – That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their powers from the consent of the governed, – That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or abolish it, and to institute new Government laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.”
Jefferson reminds us that we are not guaranteed happiness, but rather, we are guaranteed the right to pursue it. The ability to impose a legislated version of happiness is specifically excluded from the power of the Government. Therefore, We the People must stand against that which limits us and threatens our most precious gift… Liberty.
So stand up, join with us, and utilize your rights while they are still yours to fight for.
